Ting-Yan is a nurse who is enthusiastic to her work and has been working in the delivery room for over 18 years.
There was once a 38-year-old first-time pregnant woman who was admitted to hospital on her week 36 prenatal visit for labor augmentation due to severe preeclampsia (high blood pressure, proteinuria). The pregnant woman told Ting-Yan that she was not prepared for delivery and was really nervous about giving birth to her first baby at advanced maternal age, she was not sure if she could handle the whole delivery process and give birth successfully. Ting-Yan reassured the pregnant woman by treating her like family and explained the process of delivery using her professional knowledge. When the pregnant woman was in labor, she experienced headache and her blood pressure rose due to the pain caused by contractions, so Ting-Yan tried to use non-invasive pain relief techniques to reduce her pain. She first used the massager at the bedside to help the pregnant woman massage her back, then she taught her to use breathing techniques to relax her body. The pregnant woman said she felt much better and the headache was relieved after repeating the steps for 2 to 3 times. Yan-Ting felt great satisfaction for helping the pregnant woman to control her blood pressure and give birth successfully.
Yan-Ting carries forward TAH's SHARE spirit by always putting herself in the patients' shoes while providing clinical care, this is also why she often gains recognition and trust from the patients and their families.
