Tina was floated to another unit to care for one of our oncology patients that was critically ill. When she arrived on the unit mid-shift and performed her initial assessment, she was very concerned about her patient's condition. She spoke with the attending physicians and the consulting physicians about her concerns and advocated for changes in the patient's orders. With these changes the patient made a rapid improvement and was able to transfer back to their original unit later in the shift. During this time, Tina had also developed a rapport with the family and was able to both provide explanations for the patient's condition, and comfort for the concerned parents.

Tina is truly deserving of the DAISY Award. She demonstrated her keen assessment skills and rapidly evaluated the immediate needs of her patient. She worked with the physician team to discuss her concerns, formed a new plan, and advocated for interventions that ultimately lead to an improvement in her patient's condition. Moreover, Tina kept the family at the center of the discussions and ensured the emotional well-being of the family while they dealt with the stress of their critically ill son. Tina consistently demonstrates a balance of clinical skills and knowledge and providing for whole-person care for our patients and families.
