On Easter Sunday, Tina was on call to recover patients in the department. She would have no one scheduled with her - no other RN or aide to care for patients in the critical immediate post-op period. We had two surgeries during the daylight hours and were then notified about 6 pm that a doctor had five surgeries to do. Normally she would be called about a ½ hour before the end of the surgery for her to arrive. She came in early and basically ran a busy department single-handedly for the rest of the night.
Tina initiated vasoactive IV infusions, obtained and administered blood products, took care of patients on the ventilator - all by herself! And she remained cheerful and caring the entire time. In between cases, I saw her caring for family members - getting them food and blankets while they sat with their loved ones during the wee hours of the night. She ended up being up for well over 24 hours and was at work for much of that, but she really saved the day - we couldn't have done it without her. She is truly outstanding!
