"We recently had a 17 year old male on our unit who had experiened a cardiac arrest while running track at a local school. He was initially hospitalized in an intensive care unit and later tranferred to our unit where he remained until discharge. Tina Davis provided the utmost skill, care and compassion for this patient and his parents. His requirements were many and Tina was an active participant in two multidisciplinary conferences. Tina assisted in developing guidelines regarding the care of this patient & helped facilitate staffing assignment to ensure consistency. She developed rapport both with the patient & his family. The patient required daily therapy to a severe leg wound at another facility. Due to severe flooding in the Atlanta area there were no critical care nurses to accompany him to the outside facility. Tena personally accompanied the patient via ambulance so he would get the needed treatment. Unfortunately, this 17 year old had to have an amputation below his knee prior to discharge. When the idea of the possible amputation was first introduced, Tina was the person this patient discussed it with. She was always there to answer his questions an offer support. The patient and his family's appreciation was so great that they called Tina a "surrogate sister."
