Tiffany was caring for a 6-year-old patient involved in a motor vehicle crash. The patient and his family were involved in an accident while visiting from Holland. The patient was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and his 2 siblings were admitted to Tower 3, Ortho/Neuro at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children (APH) while the mother was sent to Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) and the father to Osceola.
After the patient was stabilized and his siblings were on the mend, Tiffany collaborated with our attending, the APH Transport Team, Tower 3 nurses, and ORMC to facilitate taking all 3 siblings to visit Mom at ORMC via our transport truck. Imagine the relief felt by both mother and children when they were able to see each other in person instead of FaceTime. Tiffany showed amazing compassion, collaboration to make sure this feat was possible, and advocacy for her patient and his family by coordinating this special field trip. She is an incredible PICU nurse who exemplifies the Orlando Health standards.
As pediatric nurses, we know that care extends beyond our one patient to the whole family. Allowing the 3 siblings to reunite with their mother is so therapeutic to all of them and will certainly make a difference in their recovery.
Tiffany exhibits exemplary practice every day that she comes to work, but this was truly special.
Note: This is Tiffany's 2nd DAISY Award!
