I had my first ever colonoscopy screening at age 69. Three days later I got the 7 pm call from the doctor that everyone dreads…Cancer! I needed surgery as soon as possible.
On Monday at 4 pm the call came scheduling surgery. I pre-registered, Pre-op, antibiotic body wipes; I was overwhelmed having had only orthopedic surgeries before.
God used the skillful hands of Dr. K and the prayer support and assistance of J in the OR to remove the cancerous section of my colon and put me back together.
I was taken to the MSIU unit where God had placed a special angel for me, my nurse for the first 3 anxious nights, Tiffany Morrison. Her skill, passion for nursing and compassion for her patients gave me the confidence to do all that was required to get me on my feet and functioning. Between the presence of God in me and Tiffany beside me, I was able to navigate the halls the day after my surgery with only Tylenol for pain.
What I was terrified of, a difficult painful recovery, became a time of rejoicing and praise.
On Friday evening I got excited when I thought I had passed my first bowel movement, only to be shocked when I wiped blood. When I called frantically for help, who walked in having arrived for her 7 pm shift early, yep my angel nurse, Tiffany. Her assurance that it was normal and okay calmed me immediately. Then within 5 minutes, Dr. K came through on rounds to confirm Tiffany's assessment.
Tiffany not only took care of me, but I also heard her one night working tirelessly with a patient in awful pain with what appeared to be dementia. Her patience and expertise in diverting her thoughts and caring for her were truly amazing to witness.
Tiffany Morrison is an RN who was definitely called to her profession. She is a tribute to nurses everywhere. Although I had other superb nurses and aids, Tiffany will always be my angel. She is an exceptional RN. Virginia Baptist is fortunate to have her, and I know Tiffany is glad to be there for her patients!
