Tiffany was the primary RN for a patient who had suffered a catastrophic trauma. Through the course of her 3 shifts with this patient, as her nurse "buddy" and also an RN who had helped stabilize the patient initially, I worked closely with Tiffany and watched her compassion, caring and professionalism shine in the midst of a very grave and devastating diagnosis. She worked tirelessly to care for the family as well as the patient, helping them navigate the new and shocking waters in which they found themselves. The patient had a very large family and Tiffany knew each one by name. She was right by their side when they began discussions surrounding organ donation, and helped facilitate the many pieces of the process, all while giving care to the patient as well. Of special note, this family had a young elementary-aged child, and with the parent's permission, Tiffany brought in items to create a lasting memento for this young child (the patient's handprint) which she then helped the child put their own handprint on top of the parent's handprint, so this child will forever have a precious and personal keepsake of the parent lost all too early in life. I was privileged to be Tiffany's "helping hands" for the making of the handprint art, and we both cried throughout, but my heart was full watching how touched the family was by this kind gesture. Tiffany went about all of this quietly and with extreme respect and dignity. She is a nurse I look up to and appreciate her bedside manner so much. She's not afraid to fiercely advocate for her patients and exemplifies our values here at Parker very well. I'm proud to be her friend and coworker.
