Being in an ICU can be very stressful for both patients and their families. In January 2013, we had a patient who spent 30+ days in our ICU. His wife spent many hours at his bedside all while keeping things running at home. One particular day the patient was scheduled for a procedure at 10am. He was nervous and his wife was unable to be with him due to work obligations. Tiffany understood how he was feeling so after her 12 hour night shift she clocked out and went to his room. The patient had a tracheostomy so he was unable to talk but Tiffany sat with him for 3 hours until it was time for his procedure. She stayed until it was over. A few days later I asked her why she did that and she replied "No one should go through this alone”.
Tiffany inspires me to be a better person. She truly cares about her patients and goes above and beyond her duties. She deserves the DAISY Award because she is an outstanding role model to all.
