It is well known that Thuy is an excellent nurse. A hard worker with great attention to detail, Thuy is the kind of nurse that is more frequently found in her patient`s room than out charting on her computer. What is equally impressive is how supportive Thuy is of her fellow nurses and the other patients on the unit. It is not at all uncommon to see Thuy responding to call lights, bed alarms, or beeping pumps in rooms where she does not have any patients.

I can share an example from last week that perfectly sums up the skill and teamwork that Thuy brings to the Telemetry unit.

I was floated to 2E and assigned 3 patients. Early in the shift, one of these patients had an infiltrated IV which I was not able to replace. A second nurse tried but could not find a good vein, either. Thuy graciously agreed to look and was able to successfully replace the IV. Thuy to the rescue -- just has she has done COUNTLESS other times! Over the next several hours both this patient and another of mine were transferred to ICU due to respiratory failure. While I was still in the process of transferring the 2nd patient to ICU, I was assigned a new patient in the ER. It was 0615 and I was expected to have this patient on the unit before shift change at 0700. When I got back to 2East from giving bedside report in ICU, it was 0630 and -- to my great surprise -- Thuy had heard about my predicament and had voluntarily taken it upon herself to admit the patient herself. In fact, she had already gotten report on the patient and was in the process of completing the IPA. She did everything from medication reconciliation to assessment charting and shift hand-off report; I never even saw the patient. What an incredible patient-focused action that was! And the most noteworthy thing about this story is how "typical" it is of Thuy, every week, every shift.
