My husband experienced an allergic reaction to one of the anti-nausea medications prior to his chemo treatment. It was a severe reaction of which the doctor got under control. My husband's oncologist wanted to proceed with chemo within an hour or so after stabilization. I was terrified and felt very out of control of the situation. Therese not only kept me informed of what was going on but took the time to make sure I understood. After my husband was stable and agreed to proceed with the chemo treatment, I mentioned that he had a lot of problems with nausea after his last chemo and I wanted to be certain he received enough anti-nausea before starting this treatment again. Therese was making phone calls to the oncologist, the pharmacy and just handled it for me. It seemed as though she was fighting a battle on my behalf. She was able to resolve the situation after several phone calls and my husband was able to get the medications he needed. She then took the time to calm me down and make certain I had a clear understanding of how the medications should be administered after treatment. I'm not sure how I would have made it through everything without her.
