My son fell off a roof at 25 feet and broke his back, both feet and his left hand. His stay here at Metro had been very nice. He had several bad days due to pain, but the nurses on the trauma floor are without a doubt the best. We as a family (mother of 6) have never had anything like this happen to us- so in many ways this was our first in many things.

I really fought hard about not being able to spend the night with him. It was scary to me to leave my son with people I didn't even know during what I felt was the hardest time in his life. As a mother, I was mad, scared and angry all at once! But little did I know that this was where my son's journey was about to begin. He had the greatest nurses in the world!!

Everyone from the folks that dropped off his food to the cleaning girls, social workers, nurses aids and the main nurses- I LOVED THEM ALL! My son says that all of his other nurses were there to make him smile, but Theresa was like the "Mom"! The one he looked to for help. He didn't mind for her to wash him either. As a young man that can be rather hard to let someone do that. When he was so bad he wouldn't eat, didn't want anything. Theresa asked him if he would drink a smoothie, he said yes and she went down stairs and bought him one with her own money. She was always going the extra mile.

My son thinks that Theresa thought of him as a son- and that is why I believe she deserves the DAISY award because she was more than a nurse- she stepped in for me as a mother. I felt so comfortable knowing that she was there for him. I'm glad to be moving to the next part of this journey but we will miss the girls on 7B.
