Theresa Carney works on 7N, Surgical/Orthopaedics as a staff nurse and relief charge nurse on night shift. She demonstrates dedication to excellence in her clinical performance as well as in the compassionate care that she provides for her patients. Theresa is a trusted knowledgeable resource to her patients and families, going the extra mile when it comes to active listening and educating them with information about disease processes, medications, and treatments.

As the only oncology certified RN on her home unit of orthopaedics, Theresa has been called upon on more than one occasion to offer quality time to newly diagnosed cancer patients delivering comfort, support and resource options. Recently, Theresa was recognized by the 4th floor when a patient required chemotherapy treatment and no chemo certified nurse was available on that unit. Theresa went down and administered the chemotherapy, which saved the 4th floor RN from coming to CCH during the early morning hours.

Theresa demonstrates sincere unit engagement and a full understanding of the team concept. She publishes a full color 6 page unit newsletter each month which includes charting tips, staff milestones and educational opportunities on a variety of unit related subjects. Recently she volunteered to create a monthly bulletin board for customer education on a variety of health related topics.

Theresa’s exceptional attitude toward patients, coworkers and the profession of nursing influences all who come in contact with her. She is most deserving of this recognition as she truly is an extraordinary nurse!
