The staff of Mckenzie Willamette Medical Center honored Tedra Clearwater, RN with the DAISY Award, posthumously. She made a significant impact on the lives of her patients, their families, and her co-workers. The compassion and kindness she showed towards them all are of the many virtues that will be remembered.
Tedra worked as an RN for Mckenzie Willamette Medical Center since 2001. She was a dedicated night shift nurse. She began her career on Adult Care Medicine and transitioned to the Intensive Care Unit in 2008. She fulfilled the role of staff and charge nurse with clinical expertise, empathy, and compassion. She was dedicated to her patients and their families, always going above and beyond to ensure their needs were met.
"She had a great ability to stay calm like the eye of a storm. She had a very soothing effect on the patient."
"In the ICU, Tedra was such a confident presence for the members of her patients' families. Her rooms were calm and orderly, and she was never frazzled. She made it her goal to facilitate healing sleep for everyone by 2200. Her patients were clean and tucked in, their families were updated, given tea and a business card and walked out with Teddy's arm around their shoulders. Even when things were going to hell in a handbasket, Teddy was focused and efficient. I miss her spirit, her grace and her freaking wacko sense of humor. She was such a delight and is too soon gone from this world."
"The simple kindness Tedra continually demonstrated was something that I was always aware of."
"Tedra was the sweetest, most caring nurse I have ever met. The care she provided for her patients was phenomenal and always above and beyond what was expected of her. She was so compassionate and caring. She loved her family, farm animals, and beagles. She is missed so much and I think about her all the time. I will always provide nursing care with her in mind, always going above and beyond for our patients and their families."
"Teddy always had such a heart for the family of a patient. She always comforted the families and put people at ease that the patient was going to be taken care of. She had the ability to make a wife of five plus decades go home for the night and sleep knowing their soul mate was in caring hands. She was a caring soul."
"Tedra's clinical acumen was matched by her unwavering dedication and compassion for her patients. Even when a situation was at its most hectic, she always took the time to ask how you were doing and offer help and a good laugh."
