Our daughter, N, was born at OSF and the day after, Tarah was our nurse and was an absolute rock star. When she came in at the beginning of her shift, I began to cry because I had no clue what I was doing when it came to breastfeeding and was truly convinced that my baby was starving. She calmed me down and told me that together, we would figure it out. And that is exactly what we did. She was patient and truly treated me as if I was her only patient that day. Every time it was time for N to eat, Tarah was there to help until we found our groove. Tarah truly is the reason that I stuck with breastfeeding. I would have given up before we even left the hospital without her help.
When we moved to the Mom and Baby floor after our Labor and Delivery room, all the rooms were full so we were moved down around the corner which was absolutely fine except for that the room was about 1,000 degrees and they couldn't get it to cool off and were out of fans. By Sunday afternoon, Tarah was realizing just how warm our room was getting and made every effort to get us down where all the other moms and babies were at. Although some people might have seen moving rooms as an inconvenience, we saw it as a blessing that someone was willing to be so helpful and take the time to make sure we were as comfortable as possible.
I could honestly still cry (could still be the hormones) about having her as our nurse. We really hit the jackpot. She was the most positive experience about delivering at OSF and I truly will be forever grateful.
