Tanya played uplifting music in the overflow area and continuously prayed for and encouraged her staff and our patients as she walked side by side with them through one of the scariest unpredictable times in most of our careers.
Tanya is a supervisor in PACU. She is one of the most compassionate, genuine nurses I know. She was born to be a nurse. Tanya is consistent day in and day out, but her true value came as she led her team and cared for our patients through the COVID crisis. In the weeks leading up to COVID, Tanya supported and prepared her team to staff the PACU unit as an overflow ICU for vented COVID patients. In addition to scheduling shadow shifts for her staff in ICU and working with Administration and infection control to prepare a plan to convert her unit, Tanya too was sharpening her critical care skills to serve in the trenches with her staff. She came in nights and weekends to orient to ICU while she worked on planning and development Monday through Friday. All the while caring for our scheduled surgical volume.
Once the PACU was converted to an overflow ICU Tanya and her staff worked 3-5 days a week, 12 - hour shifts both days, nights, and weekends caring for the sickest COVID patients. Tanya played uplifting music in the overflow area and continuously prayed for and encouraged her staff and our patients as she walked side by side with them through one of the scariest unpredictable times in most of our careers. She spoke with her patients' families making sure they were up to date on their loved one's condition and delivered care to each patient in true Tanya fashion. As patients recovered and moved from the overflow ICU, Tanya made sure to visit them every day she was here until they were discharged. She stayed close to each patient that came through her unit making sure they felt like family was near and never felt they were fighting alone.
The compassion Tanya showed through this crisis is constant with the nurse and leader she is day in and day out. Our patients were fortunate to have Tanya at their side caring for them through their battle. I truly believe the PACU staff made it through this crisis and shined as bright as they did in part to Tanya's leadership and dedication to her team and our patients. She is truly a DAISY Nurse.
