When a little boy was dying in the PICU, it was Tamika who walked over from the NICU to acknowledge the family's heartfelt grief and provide her ongoing comfort and support. The little boy had started out his life in the NICU nearly 6 years ago. Tamika was one of his nurses, bonded with the family from the very beginning of their son's existence. She was there throughout the years and many visits and ICU admissions as a friendly face. She was excellent at assessing their needs and providing whatever emotional and/or psychological support they needed. She was the person who would listen, talk and offer a word of encouragement, provide a much needed hug or often be the one to joke and be a source of comic relief. Tamika is a true patient advocate and her biggest strength is placing the needs of her patients and families first. She is the nurse who is there providing the parents with a lifelong bond at the very beginning of their child's journey.
