We first met Tami in 2009 when my son, C, was initially diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. At the time Tami was a nurse in the Children's hospital. She was so kind, and took the time to explain every drug and side effect from the different types of chemotherapy C received. She always provided me a printout of his labs, and handouts of the different drugs that he would receive. She always took the time to explain why she wore gowns, gloves, and masks while administering chemo. I don't think there has ever been a time when she left the room without asking if C or I needed anything.

C has had 2 recurrences with his disease, and Tami has been with us through all of it. She always teases C that she can recite his birthday from memory, because she has heard him say it a million times. Next week, we will celebrate his last chemo session, it has been an extremely long, hard road, but nurses like Tami make it more enjoyable. As a mother, I have shed many tears with this illness and Tami has shed a few with me at times. She does above and beyond her job responsibilities, and truly cares about her patients and families.
