Tami consistently displays kindness and compassion to her patients and will go out of her way to be sure her patients and families receive care that is unsurpassed. In a most recent situation, Tami was caring for one of our stroke patients. This patient's prognosis was very poor and the family was facing a very difficult decision of withdrawal or tracheotomy and peg tube with no quality of life. There had been family meetings with Palliative Care and Hospice but the decision was delayed a few times due to grueling decision of letting go of their loved one.

On the day Tami took care of that patient, she gave me her update for the day stating that Hospice was called and we would be withdrawing that afternoon. Tami spoke to the family throughout the day until finally their decision was made. The family did not stay with the patient when she died, but Tami assured them that she would not be alone. Tami stayed late beyond her shift that evening to stay with the patient when they withdrew life support. She held her hand, she prayed for her, and stayed by her side until she died. Tami genuinely showed her high regard for humanity not only for those who are living, but also for the patient who is in the process of dying. She truly makes a difference.
