This nurse truly has exhibited the meaning of customer service and compassion. The House Supervisor called requesting translation assistance for a patient in Oncology. Suzanna was glad to help after she finished her NICU shift. She walked in to the room and met an elderly, frightened, woman who needed consent for a procedure that a physician wanted to do at the bedside. She was very afraid of them giving her morphine because she was afraid she would become addicted. The physician was not sympathetic to her fear, as he did not understand that this concern was common in her generation & culture. Suzanna picked up on these issues immediately and calmed her, explaining that it would not be addictive, as it would only be used for the procedure. This patient immediately bonded with Suzanna and asked her to stay during the procedure. Suzanna assured her that she would be right by her side the whole time. Suzanna returned to the NICU for a few minutes before they were to do the procedure and she had tears rolling down her face. She said she felt very sad for this woman as she had no one with her, no family, and she was just so frightened. She returned to stand by the patient's side during the procedure. Suzanna has worked for UHS for 32 years (since the age of 5). She is also one of our Magnet Champions. She is very patient with families. She is very compassionate. She exhibits all 6 attributes of a Daisy Nurse and a great example of "4 for the Customer". This is just one example of many that demonstrates how Suzanna exemplifies the description of a Daisy Nurse.
