Susie Irwin, RN III was recently honored as the DAISY Award recipient for SLEH. The DAISY Award honors extraordinary nurses who with their education, training, skill, judgment, and compassion are truly making a difference in the lives of so many people! Susie was presented the DAISY Award by SLEH Administration and coworkers after receiving multiple nominations by the patients she has cared for.

A recent patient on the Progressive Care Unit states “Susie was able to pick up on the deep depression I was feeling and kept coming in and out just talking to me and helped me understand what was going on with my care and why. It was extraordinary to watch her demonstrate the most compassionate care and concern”.

Susie’s dedication to helping others goes beyond just what occurs within the hospital. Susie has been an integral part of an annual Medical Mission trip to the Dominican Republic for the last 13 years caring for patients before and after surgery. She also volunteers for several local causes. She volunteers once per month in a free health care clinic in Jackson County. She is part of a group at her church called Cancer Connection, providing support to families affected by cancer. She also gives her time to the Division of Family Services Social Workers helping to provide foster care children items for school and gifts during the holidays.

Thank you Susie for all you do for both our patients and the staff at Saint Luke’s East Hospital. We are so proud you are a member of the team!
