Susan covers more than 8 specialty clinics in ambulatory. Her nursing care includes direct patient care during a child's visit to the specialist as well as telephone patient education and care coordination. This is true for many nurses in ambulatory, but what separates Susan from her peers and identifies her as an outstanding nurse is her ability to identify best practices and to influence her peers in adopting best practices. This has been true in such activities as documentation and hand-offs. She is detail-oriented and never lets the sun set on an unresolved patient care issue. She does all of this as the "guest" in a service - and amazingly does this in medical specialties and surgical specialties. She serves on the ambulatory practice council and represents all ambulatory nurses on the house-wide Recruitment and Retention committee, giving voice to clinic nurses. Finally, Susan is a key participant in our quality initiatives - she conducts audits in a variety of settings. She is a valued member of our team and certainly a key contributor to our CPI and quality of care efforts.
