Though Suki is new to our department, she brings to us a vast fund of knowledge and experience from prior positions, but most of all, she brings an incredible work ethic. This became very prominent this week during a crisis situation.
A patient was admitted for massive GI bleeding and required an emergent middle of the night TIPS procedure; a very complicated intervention that is labor intensive for the physician and staff. This patient was exsanguinating and therefore the decision was to call in the Interventional Radiology team to assist the physician. The on-call nurse could not be reached for technical reasons. A call was made to Suki after midnight, who was not on call, to see if by chance she might be able to help. Sure enough, she picked up the phone, agreed to help and rushed to the hospital.
The patient received immediate treatment, without delay, and we had success in controlling the patient's bleeding. The patient was later sent to Critical Care for continued monitoring for bleeding. In following up, the patient stabilized, and her life was saved, no doubt, by the entire team.
After coming in past midnight and caring for this patient, Suki worked the following day shift with less than expected sleep without complaints. Wow! We are thrilled to have her as part of our Interventional Radiology team and would like to recognize her as having far beyond her call of duty of help save this patient's life.
Thank you, Suki!
