I have been a patient at Jewish Hospital since September 4th, 2014. After being discharged for the second time in October I was to report to outpatient Same Day Services for daily infusions for six to eight weeks. Over the past three months I have met so many wonderful people at Jewish Hospital. I would like to tell you about one of those people, Susan Sattler.

Susan is an RN in outpatient that has taken care of me many times over the past 7 weeks. When I first met Susan I knew she was different in a very special way. Susan goes out of her way to make sure I am comfortable. I knew I was in great hands when I had Susan as my nurse. Susan is dedicated to giving her patients the best care. She is for the patient and was my advocate. She has taught me so much and I am grateful to have had her as my nurse.

One day while Susan was taking care of me, she started to talk about my lab results. I am not sure if it was my facial expression or what it was that made Susan pause and say she would be right back. When Susan came back she had a print out of my lab results for that week as well as prior weeks. Susan sat down and took the time to teach me what the lab results meant. She taught me what labs Dr. G looked at, the normal numbers for each specific one and then compared the normal numbers to mine. If that wasn't enough, she went on to teach me what the lab meant example: Sed Rate shows inflammation and was excited that I could share my progress with my family doctor weekly.

I was shocked but so thankful Susan took the time to teach me that somehow she knew I didn't know what the lab result meant. Now that is going above and beyond her job!

Since that day Susan has become my favorite nurse and I have had at least 30 plus nurses take care of me since September 4th. Even when Susan's not my nurse, she will stop in to check on me. She is great at listening to my latest stories and I am so happy she has shared stories with me about her life too. She makes me feel special. Susan should be acknowledged for her kind, caring, compassionate, understanding, nurturing, sympathetic ways but also for the fact that she goes above and beyond. She was my advocate. She wanted to make sure I knew and understood my health situation. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful outstanding nurse and person on my side taking care of me!
