Each month, Sue O'Reilly receives such beautiful, amazing compliments from patients who deliver in our hospital. Sue has been with NSUH for several years and in the few years we have worked together I have had the privilege to witness first hand her professionalism as a nurse, her caring, compassionate demeanor with her patients; her dedication and positive outlook and enthusiasm for her job are so beautiful!
One patient shared with me:
"Although it's been nearly two years since the birth of my son, the memories of that day are vivid. I attribute my positive experience to my nurse that day, Sue. I can never find words to explain what a tremendous impact she had on me that day and how grateful I am to have had her as my nurse.
When I arrived with my water broken and no additional signs of "active labor," the doctor told me that I had 24 hours to deliver before things became "dangerous." To say the least, I was beyond frightened. From the moment Sue greeted me at the bedside and explained what the day would entail, a tremendous sense of calm passed over me. She not only led me through every step that day with a calm tone, but she also got to know me on a personal level, made me feel like I had known her for years, and enabled me to develop an outstanding sense of trust. She reassured me when things were not going according to plan, and she implemented skills that were beyond "bedside nursing" when she offered to do reflexology to help further my dilation and contractions. She always advocated for me, reassured me when needed, and reminded me of the joys and troubles that children bring to our lives.
There are certain people in this world that have a gift that seems to go beyond human. Sue is one of them. I hope that Sue realizes what an amazing person she is, how much of an impact she had on my family and me, and how truly blessed and lucky I feel to have had her as my nurse."
