Well known and liked throughout PSHMC, Sue's clinical practice role and critical thinking skills when dealing with complex dialysis patients exceeds expectations. No matter how busy the unit is, Sue will leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of a patient's problem or to detect a potential problem and intervene prior to potential issues arising. The work that she does teaching the patients and families is exceptional. In an emergency situation, she grabs the reins, organizes and plans how to get the entire unit of patients and staff through the situation safely and effectively.

Sue has excellent collaboration skills with management, her peers, physicians, the social worker, dietitian, and of course the patient and their families. When Sue addresses a problem, her communication is thoroughly written. She is a wonderful patient advocate and follows through on the complete care of our patients. Sue will fight for her patients to get them what they need to have the best quality of life. She is a team player with her peers and contributes to the team with zest. Her dedication to our patients is apparent daily.

Sue Briel is also a great preceptor. When she takes on the role of precepting, she puts her whole heart into the job. She is very precise in the practice in the hemodialysis unit and passes on information to her preceptee in a timely and effective manner. She encourages new staff to use their own critical thinking skills.
