St. Anthony's has had a long term patient in our hospital. Sue Bedinghaus has personally taken an interest in this patient and on a few occasions she managed to get him in a stretcher chair and take him outside for a little sunshine on his face. She has also taken him to the nurses' station so he can interact with the team.

My nurse, Sue, also took care of my father years ago when she was staffed in the infusion lab at St. Anthony's Hospital. My father received transfusions twice a week every week for many years once he was diagnosed with MDS. The staff there which included Sue became family and were adored by my father, who did not let many people get close relationship wise. On the day he passed in 2005, the infusion girls all came down to see him and he lit up like fireworks when his "girls" walked in. Twenty minutes after they left, he passed away. To see him smile like he did, and enjoy the girls one last time meant so much to my mother and me.
To realize 5 years later, Sue was taking care of me now was an extra comfort. She was very caring and made sure I had everything I needed, making my stay not so bad. She is definitely one of those special nurses you would hope to get when having to spend time in a hospital.
