A patient with an intracranial aneurysm underwent repair under anesthesia. The procedure was successful without complication. After arriving in the PACU, Stephanie Groger astutely noticed that the patient was now not moving her right side, suggesting a new left hemispheric stroke.
The patient was quickly brought back to the neurovascular center where a new clot was found in the stent placed to fix the aneurysm. The clot was quickly dissolved, and the patient made a full recovery without any neurological residual symptoms.
Stephanie's great care saved this patient from a major stroke. She is to be commended for her keen observational skills and quick communication. She is an outstanding nurse and we are so thankful for her great catch!
