My 82 year old Father was a patient for several weeks on the second floor of Lourdes, Burlington County. He had foot surgery and was not able to put weight on the foot for three weeks. My Dad did not want to lie in bed all day, he preferred to sit in a chair and look out the window. His window overlooked two huge air conditioning units. Not much of a view, but I was happy to see him sitting up and feeling good. For a couple days he said to the nurses, “I wish I had something to look at, besides machinery”. The nurse, always sympathetic, said “as soon as a room with a good view opens up, I’m moving you”. True to her word, one day Stefanie came strolling in with a wheelchair and a huge smile. My Dad said, “You look like you won the lottery.” Stefanie said, “No, you won a new room with a view of the parking lot”. I can never tell you what a huge difference that room made to my Dad. To my Dad, just being able to sit and watch cars and people coming and going made his day go faster.
Stefanie did not have to take time out of her very busy day to move my Dad and all his belongings to a different room. But she did. And we feel that she went above and beyond what is expected of her.
Stefanie made a world of difference for the weeks our Dad was in the hospital. Because of her kindness and thoughtfulness, she made what could have been an awful experience into a wonderful experience for our Dad.
