There are so many things I could write about Stacy to share her passion for her patients and the care of our community. We have a set of patients that come to surgery regularly as part of paracentesis protocols. One day, a patient came pre-op and was full of urine from Lasix that was given in the nursing home. Stacy advocated for the patient and was able to get leadership to purchase new clothes for the patient to go home in.
We had a patient that had not received their teeth post op and Stacy drove to the patient's house to make sure they had their dentures. She organized with another team member a back-pack school supplies rally for the Fairfield community schools and donated much-needed backpacks and supplies to these children. She is the clinical council chair and is always looking for ideas to improve the morale and work-life balance in the unit.
But that is not all, recently Stacy's father was diagnosed with cancer which required him to get a port-a-cath. Stacy researched ways to help these patients have more comfort after their multiple procedures and she has begun making "Port Pillows"; these pillows are designed to go onto the seatbelt of the patient to prevent pressure on the newly inserted port. Each Port pillow comes with a card and it reads:
"Ports can make IVs more convenient and neat Till you get in your car and you sit in your seat. You buckle your seatbelt and it hurts quite a lot 'Cuz the strap hits the port-a-cath's very same spot. So here is a pillow you put on your seatbelt to cover your port, so less pressure is felt. Now wrap the loops around your seat belt, with the pillow towards your chest. Know we are praying and wishing you the very best!"
Stacy is hand making every pillow to provide some relief for their discomfort during this awful time. She is so innovative and creative, and we love that spirit about her!
Three of our team members have been diagnosed and had breast cancer this year. Stacy recently made a seatbelt cushy cover for the entire strap to help with the discomfort of these mastectomy patients for their car ride home. Her kindness caring and extraordinary compassion deserves to be recognized.
