Patient focus is the primary value that drives Sonia to excel in providing evidence-based high-quality care to her patients. She is knowledgeable about the care that her patients require and her strong clinical skills ensure her patients receive excellent care. She is an attentive listener and very involved with her patient's plan of care. Her collaborative approach makes her easy to work with and her proactive stance impresses the multidisciplinary team to act on Sonia's suggestion and recommendation.
She is a very helpful person, always ready to lend a hand without any hesitation and will ask for help when needed. She is a good team player. Staff in D3-2 value her for her friendliness, making others feel welcome with her endearments and a warm smile. She monitors her patients' progress and acts quickly in the event the patient shows signs of deterioration. She is a good patient advocate, she contacted the medical team to review her patient's pain management so that it was appropriate for the patient.
Sonia is a compassionate nurse; she takes her own initiative to help those in need. A patient with a complex surgical condition was admitted to the unit and Sonia observed the relatives were not coping emotionally. Sonia recognised their struggle with accommodation and she contacted social services to provide support to the family members. Her actions resulted in the family members being rested and being able to spend quality time with the patient.
Another incident occurred when a patient's type and screen was not processed in a timely manner. The primary nurse communicated with Sonia, who followed up on the issue, her good rapport with the patient meant she was able to repeat the blood test and ensure the results were available for the patient's pending surgery.
Sonia managed a critically ill patient who had difficulty maintaining his airway. Sonia involved the multidisciplinary team and recommended a referral to the ENT service to review the patient. Once the patient was seen by the ENT service, the patient was fast-tracked to the intensive care unit. The patient received the high-level care he required because his nurse Sonia was striving for excellence.
Working alongside Sonia, it is evident she does her best for her patients and their family members because she is sincere in her actions. She inspires others to embody her gentle ways, her kindness to new staff, supporting them to develop personally and professionally is humbling. Her teaching style appeals to both new staff and Saudi interns, she meets their learning needs. She has made lasting relationships with staff and students she precepted and mentored, she is highly respected for her clinical skills and knowledge.
It is a pleasure to work with Sonia and be provided with opportunities to learn from her. She is very accommodating and will put the needs of the unit first.
