After a lengthy unsuccessful resuscitation effort in the Twin Cities Emergency Department, I observed two nurses at the patient's bedside. Sondra Williams was one of those nurses. Sondra had tears in her eyes and was holding the patient's hand. She did not personally know the patient or his family, but did not want the patient to pass alone. Sondra said, "my father lives in Peru and if something happens to him I probably will not be able to make it in time. I did not want this patient to pass alone." Sondra was there for him and his family.

This is an example of what nurses do every day, by touching lives and making a difference. It is not always about the dramatic and extraordinary, it is more about those simple moments that we take for our patients and families that make a difference!
