My husband was admitted to TGH via the ER for a non-typical he was taken to the Cardiac Telemetry Unit because of a history of A-Fib with myopathy. It is important to note that my husband had been on a regimen of corticosteroids for PMR from which he suffered severe side effects not least of which was an altered personality (anxiety, irritability, and anger). Unfortunately, the nurses took the brunt of it.
While all the nurses provided excellent care, Sivily, went above and beyond. She didn't just attend to his physical requirements and needs. She also attended to his mental and emotional needs and concerns. When he was confused or concerned about procedures and why they were being done, she took the time to explain things. She would always check on him to see how he was doing physically and emotionally, providing encouragement and always had a way of calming his anxieties, irritability and even his anger. She even prayed with him which really helped to calm him down. The two days he was under her care were his best and least anxious days. On the day of his discharge, although she wasn't his nurse, she still came by to say goodbye and wish him well.
Sivily saw my husband, not just as a patient with health care needs, but also as a human being with emotional needs as well. She saw to his overall wellbeing, addressing his anger, anxiety, and emotional needs as well as the physical. Sivily was a Godsend at a time we needed it most and I will forever be grateful for her compassion, caring, encouragement and most of all her understanding in dealing with what I know was initially a difficult patient. She was truly our angel and I will forever be grateful for her. Thank you,Sivily! God bless you!
