We recently had a patient who was preterm and unfortunately needed a C-section. The soon-to-be father was extremely nervous and couldn't stop pacing. The primary attending knew just who to call. She mentioned to the father that there was a nurse who delivered at 34 weeks and asked him if he would like to speak with her. His eyes lit up. Simone came to the rescue. I came into the PACU where the husband was waiting before the C-section and saw Simone in deep conversation with him. I wasn't sure what was going on but it was such a beautiful sight. The attending explained the situation to me. Simone sat with the father the entire time prior to the C-section and calmed his nerves. She opened up and shared her story with him and put him at ease, allowing him to focus on the miracle he was about to experience. It was a perfect example of how Simone goes above and beyond for anyone, you don't even have to be a patient. Simone always says you can always find some commonality with anyone you come across and she lives by that. Watching her makes you want to be a better nurse!
