My father was admitted in SICU for an emergent surgical intervention related to an upper GI bleed. The bleeding was so massive, he required a LOT of blood transfusions. Because of this, his lungs got compromised which necessitated him to stay in SICU for 2.5 weeks. It was just one thing after the other throughout his entire hospital stay. In all this time even though, we did not do anything but stay at his bedside and pray for him to get well, not once have we been made to feel we were a hindrance nor a burden to his nurses. Where there were feelings of uncertainty, there were words of calmness to replace it. And as we knew that things were critical then, there were comforting words to offer, never too much to give us false hope but facts to reassure us that efforts were being made to make him well. We felt that they weren't just taking care of Papa but us, as well.
I always smile when I hear of DMC being called Doctors Miracle Center, but I never thought of having to experience it myself. I believe God has sent all of you wonderful people to make this miracle happen. Please know that you have touched our lives not just by nursing my father back to good health, but also with such compassion while doing it. Yes, I am happy to say he is at home walking without any assistance, almost back to where he was before all this happened. Isn't that amazing?
I want all of you to know that I am so honored to know all of you not just as coworkers, but friends, as well that truly care for people and their families. You are all god's gifts to us! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
