My mother is a patient in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, and the experience lets her realize what caring, responsibility and dedication are!

My mother had the surgery 15 days ago, and at the time of this writing she still has an IV and a drainage tube. She feels weak, and coughing and expectoration make her feel even weaker. Every night, she has to sit up for a prolonged bout of coughing. The day before yesterday, Nurse Xu Shuchang was on duty. At midnight, she noticed that my mother was coughing, so the nurse did percussion on the lungs for my mother and then gave my mother water to drink. Shuchang smiled all the time.

Another busy night, Shuchang was on duty again when my mother's central IV tube became blocked without warning. Shuchang comforted my mother and worked more than an hour until she had fixed the problem. Then she put my mother in bed to sleep and told her to call the nurse if she needed anything else.

We thank nurses like Xu Shuchang. She does responsible nursing work and takes good care of the patients! I believe that's the spirit of the DAISY Award. I will tell my child to learn from Xu Shuchan and the other nurse ladies who show responsibility for others, for the job, the profession, and mostly for the patient in their care! Thank you Shuchang!
