Shireen is a highly self-motivated, competent, organized, and compassionate senior nurse leader. She is equally loved and respected by her patients, peers, subordinates, and superiors, alike. Shireen does many fine deeds for the patient's nurse's ancillary staff and physicians on Ward 5BSouth, but below I will just mention one particular incidence in which she demonstrated her caring and compassionate ways.
There was a young patient who was the mother of three young children that was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Shireen became very attached to this family. She would encourage the patient, listen to her concerns, and provide her with the best nursing care possible. The patient would speak so fondly of Shireen to many staff members.
Shireen is so thoughtful and kind. She took beautiful pictures of the family so they would have fond memories of one another despite the dire circumstances of their situation. Upon the patient's discharge from Emory, Shireen kept in contact with the family. She organized, coordinated, collected, and delivered Christmas gifts from the staff of Ward 5B south to the family.
Shireen offered her condolences to the children and family by attending the funeral of this beautiful young woman. These are the types of things that Shireen Johnson-Locket does for people and that are why I love her dearly; and recommend her for this award.

The patient was pleasant with at beautiful smile in spite of her severe illness. She had been in the hospital for weeks, maybe even more than a month on several occasions. She had three children. The illness was getting worst and Nurse Lockett was doing an excellent job at distracting the patient. She also took care of the patient's children and give comforting words to encourage them. The children became attached to her and would ask for Nurse Loclett when she is not assigned to their mother. Nurse Lockett was attentive to the patients needs. Nurse Lockett suggested for Christmas to adopt the patient family. She developed flyers and posted them all over the Unit and sent emails to remind the staff to bring in gifts for the family for Christmas. She also brought in gifts and coats, clothes and toys for all the children.
Nurse Lockett stated that she had a trunk full of toys for the children, because this might be the last time these children spend with their mother and she wanted it to be special for them. The unit also collected $100 and gifts cards to give to the caregiver for grocery. The gifts were delivered to the home and all spent time with the patient. The patient health was growing frail and debilitated but the spirt was strong. Lots of photos were taken by Nurse Lockett for the family members. The prayer is the little children wouldn't remember the ailing mother's cries of pain, rather the memories spent with the Nurses and dancing and laughing with Nurse Lockett.
Shireen Johnson-Lockett has been apart of the Emory Healthcare system for more than 20 years. She displays excellent clinical skills and compassionate holistic nursing care to her patients. Though I am impressed by her exemplary clinical skills, intellectual prowess, leadership capabilities, poised conflict resolution abilities, communication and interpersonal skills. Shireen has a caring spirit and a unique way of making all of her patients feel that they are special. For this reason, I nominate Shireen Johnson-Lockett, an extraordinary nurse, for the DAISY Award.
