Let me start by introducing you to Shinia. She started as an RN at the Broad Street site in 2010. She was hired because of her knowledge of PACE (she was a BSW at PENN LIFE, went back to school for BSN) and now presented herself for an RN role at our newly opened site. She was genuine in her presentation during her interview and stood out as someone who was passionate about the elderly. I remember clearly that she was not only professional in her presentation but she was warm and engaging, qualities not easily found in new nurses. Shinia quickly became a leader with the other staff and she was seen as someone who was empathic, had great attention to detail and was a problem solver with great compassion. The opportunity became available for her to move to the Assisi House to become the primary nurse. This role was much different than the traditional role the LIFE nurse experienced at the center. The role of the primary nurse at Assisi House would need to have all the qualities that Shinia possessed and much more. The transition was difficult at times, requiring Shinia to stay collaborative and focused on our Mission. She did this with such professionalism, even in times that were extremely challenging. She never wavered from our goals of bringing the LIFE services to the Sister of St. Francis even at the most troubling times. She remained trustworthy and compassionate and also stayed focused. Shinia is an extraordinary nurse. Extraordinary compassionate care is the heart of Shinia.
