I spent six days at Kaiser hospital in Ontario due to surgery. Shenandoah Gray was my evening nurse. From the various nurses that treated me Shannon exemplified all the above mentioned qualities to the highest standard. My abdominal pain was severe and she clearly demonstrated her concern for my well-being and kept checking in on my status. Once she saw that the pain medication was not working she went out of her way to obtain a warm compress to alleviate my pain and cramping.

She demonstrated innovation by using an ice pack and filling it with warm towels. I had previously asked other nurses for a warm compress, but was told none were available. I found that to be most compassionate of her. Also, Shenandoah was always prompt in answering when I paged and she was timely in monitoring my pain meds, emptying my pan, cleaning out my drainage.

She was always professional and made me feel comfortable. Before the end of her shift she ensured to inform me of this and introduced me to the new shift nurse. During that exchange, Shannon made it a point to inform the new nurse of my status, clearly explaining my condition and needs.

To see Shannon collaborate with her team members was comforting and assuring. When I consider the qualities of what constitutes a great nurse, Shannon now comes to mind.
