Tagore wrote, "I leave no trace of wings in the air, but I am glad I have had my flight."
As a nurse, I am convinced that the monument is speechless, and action is better than words.
One day, the Director of SRRSH Outpatient Office, received a package with 30 umbrellas in it. These umbrellas were orange and printed with "Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital" on them. We could not tell who the sender was, but there was a printed letter in the box.
The letter wrote: "Dear Director, Hi! Just a suggestion, is it possible to set a certain place to keep umbrellas for sharing? Recently, it rained heavily. When I saw a girl walking in the rain, I shared my umbrella with her to the subway. After chatting, I learned that she just had an embryo transfer at our hospital. I felt sorry for her that she had to walk in the rain just after the procedure. She thanked me for sharing my umbrella, making the rainy day bearable. Suddenly, an idea came to me. In Hangzhou, there are plenty of rainy days, and often patients and colleagues without umbrellas are held at the front gate. So, I bought 30 customized umbrellas, could you help me and put them at OPD for sharing? I believe an umbrella can bring people warmth. Thanks for your support!"
The Director was touched by the package and shared the story with SRRSH staff. It turned out that Shen Yangqun, a nurse at Head & Neck Surgery unit was the one who bought the umbrellas for the hospital. She made a decision for the hospital to provide more warmth to patients and staff. Shen is a role model for us to implement the SRRSH philosophy, "Give you sincerity, confidence, and love!"
