Her kindness, self-sacrifice and support to the patients and the nursing team extend beyond her call of duty and department. She is always helpful to all patients, beyond her PCU unit and had offered countless times to help IVCU. It is especially appreciated during the weekend when we only have two nurses on the floor. During the multiple incidents on the floor, she miraculously appeared out of nowhere and offered her assistance.
Sometime in September, one of our patients was actively bleeding and both IVCU nurses on the floor needed to attend to the emergency situation. Shelly came to the department on her own and helped with other patients' needs. She even asked if we needed help with the bleeding patient. She paged the on-call doctor while we were trying to stop the bleeding.
In the beginning of October, one of our patient fell and needed to get CT test post-fall and Shelly once again came and offered her help. She took the patient to the CT and then ED. Also, in October one of the IVCU patient needed a chest X-ray and the procedure was scheduled for the early morning, and once again Shelly offered to help to take the patient to the chest X-ray. IVCU nurses are highly appreciative of Shelly for all her help. She is very kind and quick to respond to patients and colleagues in need. Always ready to do what it takes to assist and ensure patient safety. I am very impressed with her sacrifice, kindness and dedication to her work.
