Sharnell’s compassion to her patients is remarkable. A patient was recently admitted at the end of day shift. Fortunately, Sharnell was her nurse that night. The patient had traveled from out of state to take care of her dad. She had multiple health issues and needed careful monitoring. She cried to Sharnell and wanted to leave against medical advice. She hadn’t seen her dad yet. After Sharnell’s night shift was over, she clocked out, contacted the patient’s father, drove to Hobe Sound, picked him up, took him out to breakfast, then to the barbershop for a much needed haircut and shave, bought and packed a lunch for both the patient and her father, and then drove the father back to the hospital where he spent time with his daughter. She then drove the man home. Amazing!!

Sharnell works tirelessly for Jupiter Medical Center. She is a Magnet Champion and Unit Base Council Chairperson because she believes in the mission and vision. She understands the importance of continuing education and recognition of fellow staff. When nurses get floated to her unit she educates, supports and thanks them for helping. Her enthusiasm and energy are endless.

She supports her unit when short-staffed and works 5-6 shifts in a row. She volunteers for Palm Healthcare. Just recently she volunteered her time for the Healthy Workforce Conference.

Sharnell is on the Board of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses of Palm Beach County. She is tireless in her quest to increase certifications of JMC staff, and has arranged for scholarships to those who participate in the upcoming CCRN/PCCN review and testing.

During the holidays, she dresses up and goes to the Pavilion to cheer the patients (and staff).

Sharnell’s compassion, caring, knowledge, energy and commitment to nursing make her a deserving DAISY Award honoree!!
