... during leadership rounds, I was walking down the hall and heard a patient call out. "Donna! Come in here!" Mrs. M, the patient, said "I have to tell you something that happened to me." I could just see the excitement bouncing around in her!

She reminded me that her husband was just two rooms down from her. He had been in one of the ICUs and recently transferred to 9LM. While he was in the ICU, the staff had made sure that her phone line was open 24 hours a day. She didn't want to miss out on any updates regarding her husband. Even with this, and being able to visit him a time or two, she felt very disconnected from him and was feeling anxious.

That morning, Shari Morrison-Pipp came in and told her that she would not be getting her breakfast in her room. She was going to be able to have breakfast with her husband! Mrs. M went into quite a bit of detail explaining the "trouble" the staff went through to arrange this. They placed her into a wheelchair and took her to Mr. M's room, which had been rearranged completely. The two of them were able to sit next to each other while enjoying their breakfast together.

Although Mrs. M wanted to thank the entire night shift for making this happen, she wanted to call out Shari specifically. After working a 12 hour night shift, Shari took the time to think of this, and to implement it. It was "Shari's brain child, she needs to be given an award or something. Please make sure she gets something. I almost cried when she told me what was happening!"

The patient went on to say that Shari has a "big heart" and "I will never forget what she did for us."

Thank you Shari for going beyond the daily routine, and being sure to care for these patients' emotional well being. This is a demonstration of a true DAISY Nurse!
