I came into the ER with what some would call an "undesirable, embarrassing waste of time" situation. I was going through the delirium associated with alcohol withdrawal, as well as the side effects of ingesting anything that might contain alcohol. From the moment I moved from the ICU to the Medical Floor, Shannon revived in me a sense of hope for my life.
I had never felt so sick in all my life, and Shannon helped attend to my most embarrassing needs. Shannon made me feel as though I was her only patient. Not once in my entire six-day stay did I feel as though I was being judged for my situation, nor did I feel like a burden with my thousands of requests and needs. When I felt I was at the lowest point in my life, Shannon always had a smile, was positive, and provided words of encouragement when I needed them most. Shannon provided extraordinary care to me when I was unable to make it to the restroom. She cleaned me and never said a negative word.
I could go on and on about the sincere love, empathy, and sheer kindness she showed doing what I believe to be one of the hardest jobs in the world. The genuine glimpse of hope she gave me when I thought there was no hope left will never be forgotten. Shannon exemplified such hard work and dedication while caring for a once hopeless alcoholic. St. Peter's truly has an angel working for them.
