I am a nurse in the pediatric ED and on this particular shift I had an 11-year-old crisis patient who was refusing to cooperate with the police, the doctors, and myself. There are certain procedures that have to happen in these situations and when unable to get a patient of any age to cooperate, security gets involved which is the last thing anyone wants, especially when a child is involved.
While I went to talk to security, Sarita had asked the tech on duty why the 11-year-old was upset, and the tech explained the situation to her. Sarita was not working in peds and did not need to take the time or compassion she did with not only the patient but to help out the staff in the peds ED. She was a gift and with her magical touch had the patient in a gown and doing all the required things to move forward. She did all this with a smile and without a requirement. Her care was both therapeutic and helped with the timeline. This was above and beyond what was required of her and I am thankful for both myself and the trauma she saved this little patient. Thank you, it meant more than words could express!
