Sarah is a compassionate nurse who goes above and beyond for each and every one of her patients. Sarah maintains a positive attitude every day, no matter how tough of a shift she may have endured. Sarah is very caring and has a big heart.
Once, while working together at shift change, two very sick babies were rushed back to one of her open rooms, one was in critical condition. The babies' mother was a first-time mom and never had to deal with sick little ones before, let alone one who was in critical condition. The mother and the grandmother were both in distress and tearful on arrival. Sarah was able to calm them down just by the way she communicated. She took the time to explain everything that was going on in a way that they not only understood, but that eased their anxiety. She helped reassure the patients' family that we were going to take very good care of the babies and help them understand everything that was happening along the way. At one point the mother was so overwhelmed with anxiety by the situation and her inconsolable baby. Sarah saw this and took the baby into her arms in a true act of compassion. Sarah helped the mother and the grandmother feel at ease. Sarah took charge of the situation. With her compassion and skillful care, she helped the family not only relax but feel optimistic.
Not only is Sarah caring and compassionate for each and every one of her patients, but she is also caring and compassionate for coworkers as well. That night she saw that I had my hands full with the two sick babies and helped make sure my other rooms were taken care of before leaving. That explains how Sarah treats her coworkers. You know when you work with Sarah you have a teammate who cares. She takes in new staff and students, helping them learn and succeed.
Thank you, Sarah, for showing us what it is to be a compassionate and skilled nurse.
