Where do I start about Sarah! I don’t think I would have made it without her! The commitment and compassion she showed to me helped me not only get better but it helped my family. Having ARDS has been the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I had been sick for a couple months, and had been to a couple doctors who did blood work and thought I had a virus. While I did have a gastric bypass, not being able to breathe is the worst thing that can happen to someone! I remember being at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island breathing so fast, thinking I am going to die. I would see the look on my family’s faces and they knew I was!

Since I don’t remember a whole lot about ICU, what I do remember is Sarah giving me the will to live. I was told I was out of the danger part and wouldn’t be put back on the vent, but for some reason, it still felt like I was breathing thru a small straw. I had no air. Sarah is the one who calmed me down and helped me breathe. When I had to get up to the bathroom, I didn’t think I could catch my breath and Sarah helped me thru it. After being in the hospital for many days and having so many nurses, there is no question she is a number 1 nurse! She respected me, my family (who were by my side the whole time,) the other nurses and the doctors. She always made sure my needs were met and even if I got frustrated, she didn’t get upset with me. She made me see I needed to fight thru this ARDS.

I can’t think of another nurse more deserving of the DAISY award than Sarah. She is one of those nurses doing it because she is kind and caring. She is truly my angel and will never forget her and how she helped my recovery. Her nursing skills were great too. She always explained to me everything she did and didn’t get upset with me if I didn’t understand something. When my ribs and shoulder hurt so bad I couldn’t stand it, she always helped me thru those bad times. I mean it when I say I couldn’t have done it without Sarah!

I can’t wait to get all better and walk in one day to the 9th floor and see Sarah and say, “I did it Sarah, and you were a BIG part of it.” Thank you Sarah from the bottom of my heart!
