DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. It seems fitting that Sarah has taken on a role that protects nurses and staff in the hospital, who have no immunity to the Novel Coronavirus. At the time the global pandemic emerged, there was great fear.

Sarah, who is a skilled nurse in Ambulatory Surgery, accepted the challenge of teaching nurses and other staff how to properly utilize Personal Protective Equipment. Her ability to properly teach people throughout the organization how to utilize PPE could possibly be described as a lifesaver for those who might have otherwise been vulnerable to the potent virus. Sarah's flexibility, 'can do' spirit, and competence instilled confidence in others. She alleviated the fear of the staff and made it her personal mission to educate and support nurses, so they could do the same with their patients.

When someone has a question or requires information, Sarah's approachability creates an environment of calm and trust. She takes her knowledge and action-based learning to the floors, where staff value and appreciate her. She has established a best practice in filling an unmet need, supporting her colleagues, and preventing the spread of infection. She has taken this serious topic and created fun with it as well, creating a 'mini' fashion show with the latest in PPE.

She takes her role very seriously and instills a spirit of creativity in her work. Her ability to use evidence-based research in her teaching has preserved valuable resources and maintained the safety of our staff and patients. She embraces all that is good about nursing as a well-informed, collaborative, and caring individual.
