I have had the pleasure of working with Sara Belot, RN, for many years. When I first starting working on 8D clinic about 7 years ago, Sara welcomed me with open arms. She was a friendly smile in an area that I was not that familiar with. She provided me with reassurance in my new role and guided me on my new journey as a nurse.

Sara has amazing rapport with patients and their families. I have witnessed, on so many occasions, the patience and kindness she shows to all the patients she encounters. Her calm approach when starting an IV or accessing a port is reassuring to our patient population. She often shares her own experiences with patients in such a way that is soft spoken and gentle. She identifies with them, making their experience easier.

Sara is hard working and I know that when I am scheduled to work in an area with her, it will be a great shift. She is always willing to help and as Sara has worked at SickKids for many years, her knowledge and her ability to share her knowledge is outstanding.

One of the many examples of Sara's dedication was when I was working with her in the Recovery Room, a new family had come in with the diagnosis of leukemia. It is often hard to find the words when providing care for a new family. What I witnessed was a family that came into the room in tears and with fear, and about a half hour later, a family that was able to smile with a look of reassurance and hope. Sara spent almost the entire time with them, talking with them and supporting them. Although I don't know exactly what was said, I didn't have to, their faces said it all.

Sara supports and is so dedicated to families at SickKids, but I would also like to speak of how she supports her colleagues. She is always willing to listen and help. For this reason, I am not only so grateful to work with Sara professionally, but to also call her a friend.
