Sara came out to us in the freezing cold to reassure us that our Mom and Dad were ok and that our Dad had been given permission to stay with our Mom until 8 pm.
Our mother was a patient on the Observation Unit earlier this month and was lucky enough to have Sara as her nurse. Sara immediately recognized the concern of our family during a major health crisis. Our mother has always been healthy and active until recently her health declined. She has only been in the hospital to have her 5 babies. During this period of uncertainty and not being able to be there with our Mom, Sara stepped in as an incredible advocate for our Mom. We found out our Mom's melanoma from 20 years ago had returned and metastasized after given a clean bill of health in May of 2020. Sara stayed in direct contact with us while working with her charge nurse and the physician to be able to have our Dad in the room at the time results were given to our Mom.
Sara went above and beyond her daily responsibilities to support our family. On the evening my parents received the devastating news, my sisters and I were outside of the hospital waiting for our Dad. Sara came out to us in the freezing cold to reassure us that our Mom and Dad were ok and that our Dad had been given permission to stay with our Mom until 8 pm. This was a huge relief for my Dad to be able to see and comfort his wife of 54 years in her greatest time of need. Sara's empathy and reassurance allowed us to take a deep breath, gather ourselves and prepare for the journey ahead. Her compassionate care allowed our family to process the devastating news.
