This nurse delivers heartfelt, compassionate care to all her patients. She is very concise and thorough in the delivery of her care keeping safety at the forefront. Recently this RN has had two Great Safety Catches. Sara was a strong patient advocate and their voice at critical times. The first safety catch was during a time out before a block procedure, she noticed her patient's consent had been altered after she previously had discussed and signed it with her patient. She spoke up and halted the time out when this alteration was noticed and before administration of sedation. This RN notified the surgeon, rewrote a new consent adding the addition to the procedure and the patient and Physician resigned the consent. The second Great Safety Catch involved administration of a sedation medication at the beginning of a block procedure while another medication was also infusing. She stopped and questioned the compatibility of these two different medications. She called Pharmacy to verify and it was confirmed that the two medications were not compatible. The RN informed the Physician and new IV solution and tubing were changed before administration of further medications. These are just a few examples of this RN and the dedication and commitment she has to her patients. She is also very caring and concerned about her fellow colleagues and how their day is going and what she can do to help them.
